Katarina Nevenić
“I am interested in the moment before something becomes visible.”
Velvet Void · 2026

Katarina creates atmospheric paintings that explore the territory between perception, memory, and inner experience. Working through layered surfaces, translucent color, and subtle luminosity, she constructs what might be described as a psychological topography — an inner geography where emotion, intuition, and imagination converge.

Her work inhabits a space at the edge of visibility. Forms emerge and dissolve through veils of color, suggesting waterways, hidden flora, cavernous landscapes, and distant horizons. These elements do not function as descriptions of physical places, but as fragments of an internal landscape: traces of experiences that feel simultaneously remembered and unknown.

Central to her practice is the idea of light as a signal rather than illumination. Inspired by the way distant stars bridge unimaginable expanses through faint radiance, the luminous passages within her paintings act as quiet impulses emerging from velvet darkness. Light becomes a whisper rather than a revelation — a subtle presence connecting space, silence, and being.

Through this interplay of shadow and luminosity, she creates what she describes as a meta-ambient environment: a contemplative realm where memory becomes spatial, silence acquires texture, and perception slows into attentive observation. Darkness and light do not oppose one another but collaborate, generating an atmosphere of subtle transformation and suspended time.

Neither purely abstract nor representational, her paintings invite viewers into a transcendent interior landscape — an elegant echo of an unvisited room, captured at the edge of visibility.
